The term spa
is associated with water treatment which is also known as balneotherapy,
spa towns or spa resorts offering such treatment, or the medication
or equipment for such treatment.
Aromatherapy is a contraversial
form of alternative medicine that uses volatile liquid plant materials,
known as essential oils (EOs), and other scented compounds from
plants for the purpose of affecting a person's mood or health.
Pilates called
his method Contrology, because he believed his method uses the
mind to control the muscles. The program focuses on the core postural
muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential
to providing support for the spine. |
Yoga
is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India.
According to Gavin Flood, Academic Director of the Oxford Centre
for Hindu Studies it has been defined as referring to "technologies
or disciplines of asceticism and meditation which are thought
to lead to spiritual experience and profound understanding or
insight into the nature of existence." Yoga is also intimately
connected to the religious beliefs and practices of the other
Indian religions.
Detox, short for detoxification, in general is
the removal of toxic substances from the body. It is one of the
major functions of the liver, lower gastrointestinal tract and
kidneys, but can also be achieved artificially by techniques such
as dialysis and (in a very limited number of cases) chelation
therapy. |
